Kay Johnson - Undergraduate Researcher

About Me

Hello! I am a student studying public health at the University of Florida, minoring in Spanish and entomology. I possess a deep interest in how environmental and ecological factors shape human health---especially in marginalized communities. My current research experiences include investigating Neotropical butterfly systematics at the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity and working in a biomedical informatics lab, investigating pregnancy-associated cancer via computational analyses. Currently, other than being a full-time student and a researcher in two labs, I work as a coordinator of outreach and education for the McGuire Center, and I was also selected to be a part of the Thompson Earth Systems Institute (TESI) Environmental Leaders Fellowship (ELF). As a result of my experiences in these spheres, I’m particularly drawn to issues at the intersection of entomology, environmental exposures, and disease transmission. I’m always looking to connect with others passionate about environmental justice, science communication, and health policy.
