Health Outcomes & Biomedical Informatics (12/24 - Present)

As a research intern in Dr. Dominick Lemas’ lab at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine, I have contributed to several projects in biomedical informatics, data organization, and research documentation. My work has involved compiling and analyzing health codes for an ICD-related issue using R and GitHub, reviewing diet spreadsheets for discrepancies, and refining volunteer documentation. Additionally, I have participated in weekly lab meetings, collaborating with the team to discuss project goals and align research efforts. Engaging with Dr. Lemas’ published work has also strengthened my literature review and critical thinking skills, deepening my understanding of health outcomes research.

For the remainder of the spring 2025 semester, I am leading the lab’s end-of-term poster project, ensuring that it effectively communicates our research findings. In parallel, I continue to refine my technical skills in biomedical informatics, particularly in data management and coding.

This experience has reinforced my interest in public health and biomedical informatics, particularly in the application of computational methods to health data analysis. Managing complex datasets, such as ICD codes and dietary records, has strengthened my attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Furthermore, balancing programming-heavy tasks with research coordination has enhanced my project management and time management skills. Moving forward, I aim to continue integrating informatics and public health research while contributing meaningfully to interdisciplinary studies on healthcare outcomes.
